What does cycling a tank mean?

What exactly is ‘cycling‘?
It means you are creating a filtration system by ensuring there is a bacteria colony in it that removes toxic waste to ensure your aquatic life has a healthy environment to thrive in!
Step 1
HOW TO CYCLE A FISH
TANK
Fill the bottom of your tank with the substrate of your choice and
then fill the tank with clean, dechlorinated water.
Pro Tip: Beneficial bacteria establish more quickly in fine, wet soil in
a heated tank.
Step 2
Turn on the equipment; you’ll need a heater and a filter.
Undergravel filters and hang on back filters are great for cycling
tanks.
An undergravel filter in particular can generate small currents
that will help the process along.
Pro Tip: The temperature should not exceed 75°F.
Your pH should be 7.0 or lower.
High temperatures combined with a high pH can
cause ammonia to become toxic.
